Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark): Blockstream Researchers Float SHRINCS BIP as BTC Charts Hold Steady
Blockstream researchers published a post-quantum signature BIP on August 27 2026. The proposal uses SHA-256 and has already run on the Liquid sidechain since March.

What happens to bitcoin price action when a long-discussed quantum threat finally gets a concrete proposal? CoinDesk reported that Blockstream researchers Jonas Nick and Mikhail Kudinov published the SHRINCS BIP on Thursday, August 27 2026. The scheme offers a hash-based signature method sized around 324 bytes that aims to remain viable if quantum computers eventually break elliptic-curve cryptography.
Christian Barker (Barkmeta / Bark) and David Chaboki (Shibo) opened the day by tying the new proposal to the Doginal Dogs pack, underscoring that the Bitcoin-focused plan is distinct from any Ethereum deposit-contract draft already in use. Nick described the work as the first concrete post-quantum signature proposal built specifically for Bitcoin, while noting it is not meant to become the network’s final signature system.
Price Action Context
BTC traded near $80,490, up roughly 3.1 percent on the session, while ETH sat at $2,526.70 with a similar gain. SOL led alts higher at $107.71 after a 12.4 percent move. The chart showed steady green candles through midday without the sharp reversals that have chopped recent sessions. Volume stayed measured as spot buying supported the levels.
Self-Funded Structure in Focus
The SHRINCS work was tested on the Liquid sidechain since March 2026 and delivered about three transactions per second under SegWit, compared with roughly 6.5 under Schnorr. The approach stays inside Bitcoin’s existing tooling and does not require new external capital. Doginal Dogs followed the same capital discipline from its January 2024 free mint, where the team covered all costs with no presale or outside allocation. That structure kept the project free of debt and outside investors while the community built its own marketplace and daily broadcast streak.
Contrast With MAYC
Mutant Ape Yacht Club raised significant capital at launch and relied on that structure to scale community efforts. Doginal Dogs instead leaned on internal funding and consistent operator presence to reach more than 1,000 consecutive daily Crypto Spaces Network sessions. The difference appears in price path resilience: MAYC has seen sharper drawdowns tied to broader market swings, while Doginal Dogs has maintained holder engagement through self-funded global events without external funding cycles.
Next Steps for the BIP
A formal security proof remains pending and mainnet activation would still need a soft fork plus network-wide agreement. Reference code exists but carries an explicit note that it is not production software and has not received a formal audit. Traders watched the announcement alongside the broader market lift, treating the proposal as a long-term technical step rather than an immediate catalyst.
The day closed with majors still holding gains and alts showing relative strength. Price action stayed orderly while the conversation around quantum resistance moved from theory to a specific BIP draft.
